Pearls of Power Conference - February 27-28

The 4th Annual Pearls of Power (POP) Conference begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 27th and continues through Saturday, February 28th.  POP features successful women in maritime, transportation, and related industries such as business, policy, and engineering. You are invited to attend and/or to make a presentation at the conference.  Your involvement is integral to the success of POP.

This year's keynote speaker is Anne Landstrom, Steering Committee Officer of Women in Logistics (WIL). Landstrom's work includes projects involving market and economic feasibility analysis, strategic and business planning as well as logistics and operational investigation. She has been in the international transportation and logistics industry for over 30 years and is currently working as Principal Advisor for transportation consulting company, Moffatt & Nichol.

Providing an excellent opportunity for career exploration, professional development, and networking, the POP 2015 program has 3 tracks – one for current cadets, one for those who have recently joined the work force, and a third for those looking to advance their professional careers.

New this year, after dinner on Friday, February 27 is a version of “speed dating”, where students get the chance to hone their 'first impressions' speech, in 10 minutes or less,  with an Industry Leader and get candid feedback for improvement.

On Saturday, alumni can join our lunch panel and field questions from students so they can hear first-hand about your experience at Cal Maritime and beyond.

For more information or to register, visit www.csum.edu/pop.

From the Class of 1994

Look who visited the campus for the first time in 20 years!

Marlon Barrera ('94D)  lives in Panama and has been working at Panama Canal as a pilot for the last 16 years. He is pictured with his wife Liz Marie, daughters Gabriela and Denise, and Captain Bolton.

He recalls being in his dorm room during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake (he had never experienced an earthquake prior to that one); marveled at the new Carquinez Bridge, the expanded campus, and the new technology in the Training Ship Golden Bear.
