2011 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

Cochran

Walter “Dick” Cochran was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011.  He served as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors from1995 to 2004.  This included positions as Alumni Association Secretary (1995-1999) and Alumni Association President (2000-2004).  He was instrumental in fundraising for the Class of 1950 Endowed Scholarship and together with his late wife Ann, Dick also established a Charitable Gift Annuity at Cal Maritime.Dick’s career began in the U.S. Navy where he served as Licensed 3rd assistant engineer LTJG from 1950- 1953.  In 1958, he began working for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and held various positions from Engineering to Program and Proposal Management. He worked with

Dick’s career began in the U.S. Navy where he served as Licensed 3rd assistant engineer LTJG from 1950- 1953.  In 1958, he began working for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and held various positions from Engineering to Program and Proposal Management. He worked with variety of Westinghouse products, both domestic and abroad, including: power generation equipment for both marine and power generation applications, missile launching, radar, and steel mill products. Dick and his family traveled extensively until his retirement from Westinghouse in 1991.  Dick now lives at his family home in Half Moon Bay, California.

In addition to his volunteer work with the Cal Maritime Alumni Association, Dick is Past Chairman of the California State Beaches and Parks Committee for San Mateo County and Founder and Past President of Ano Nueva Interpretative Association. He also served on the San Mateo County Fair Livestock Committee.
