2013 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

Robert W. PiazzaRobert W. Piazza ('65E) graduated from Cal Maritime in 1965 with a baccalaureate degree in Marine Engineering and has distinguished himself as a professional during his illustrious career as an engineer and business professional. He was a VP of Marketing and Sales for Dresser from 1968 to 1992 and is currently CEO at Price Pump, a position with which he has operated very successfully for more than 20 years.

During his 24-year career with Dresser Industries, now Halliburton, as Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing he managed three manufacturing plants with sales of over $200M and a sales staff of over 500 people worldwide with sales responsibility for over $700M—driving sales to $1 billion.

At his current position as CEO at Price Pump, he orchestrated a system which puts it in the top managed companies in the U.S. utilizing state of the art machinery and processes—making it solvent and capable to adapt as necessary in very short order.

For years, Piazza has promoted alumni engagement through his service as a regional chapter president, class scribe and CEO of the Cosmic Marching and Chowder Society. He has been the main contact person sending out notices of events and other relevant information regarding classmates and activities at Cal Maritime.

His service extends beyond Cal Maritime to his community in Greater Sonoma County and our country as a Naval Reservist between 1961-1991.

Piazza has been on the Cal Maritime External Advisory Committee for years along with other business professionals who help guide the future and focus of the academy. His input has been invaluable to the university and has helped to shape the progress on campus. He recognizes the importance of supporting our cadets, and was instrumental in the efforts to establish the Alumni Association’s first mentoring program. Piazza has been a mentor to many cadets who have needed information about management and has helped to guide them towards the direction that best fit with their individual strengths.

Robert W. Piazza is 2013's Distinguished Alumni Award recipient because of his commitment to Cal Maritime as well as the example he sets as a person and professional.
